Good Holiday weekend

Had a great day yesterday, went with Rat on one of her photo excursions. Drove way back in the country (and when you live well back in the country can you imagine just how deep we went?) to where a waterfall came right across the road.

I had trouble imagining how this could work until we got there and sure enough the creek cut right across the road before falling off the rocks for about 6 feet. It wasn't huge since it's been pretty dry and it was pretty fun watching Rat make her way down the steep slope to get the shot she wanted.

What was I doing? I stayed above with a rope tied around my waist to be her safety net just in case. Oh and to keep an eye out for the copperheads too. Lucky she didn't fall and the snakes stayed hidden. We went on to another site we'd seen back in the winter and she got some shots but honest there are more trips needed to get the perfect shot. I know Rat she'll keeping trying until she gets exactly what she wants...

But then back to her house where she fixed me a nice supper and Birdie joined us and we got to chat and laugh before I drug off home. I have such fun with those two nuts it's crazy.

But the kids are in school today and it's quiet here at home so I'm getting to spend a lot more time online that usual on a Monday. Storms coming in so no cook out but still it's a good day.

Bless all the soldiers past and present for the privileges I enjoy. May you know peace and happiness in this life and the next.

No painting... we ended up culling the toys and taking a load to goodwill. Those things eat us out of house and home. lol

Moving around again

I don't know if it's me or what but Firefox has been just a pain in the arse the last couple of weeks. Both on my laptop and both the pc's in the house.

That being said having been using Firefox for a while I just can't seem to tolerate IE anymore since if I look crossways at it the darn thing crashes.

So I've downloaded Opera and am using it now. It really is fast and has some interesting layouts but I'm not sure how profiles are going to look on it. Guess it'll be a trial and error sort of experience. Hopefully Firefox will fix or update their browser soon.

I love my Firefox, but if I were going to change browsers then I'd go where the geeks are going, and that is Google Chrome. It is a thoroughly modern browser with HTML5 so you can watch youtube without needing flash. It also has a huge adoption - 9% of the browsers (all at the cost of Internet Explorer).

I use them all. Once one crashes I go to another. Firefox is the most annoying of them all in my opinion. I try to stick with IE.

I had the same problem with IE & Fire Fox. I still have to use Fire Fox because of the boys school online but I have downloaded Google Chrome. It came recommended from a friend on Facebook. So if you have any problems with the Opera try Chrome as well.

The last week or so has been wicked busy around here with no real good reasons for it. Just every time I lift my head there's something else needing my attention. Okay some doctor apts this week and out of town ones that took longer but still...

Good news is my niece got home from her band competition trip, got 1st and 4th places so woo hoo, even if they didn't care. They went up on friday to St Louis, MO preformed friday night, then spent 12 hours Saturday at Six Flags where she called 3 times and texted us about 10 from having a blast. Sunday was up to the top of the Arch, snapping pictures and more texts before they hit a couple of museums there. At one point they went to a mall and there ran into some trouble, seems one of those small kiosks stores for cell phones was manned by a woman with a problem with teens and when several of them stopped and were looking at her wares, she got nasty told them to leave and they did but a bit later 2 security guards came after them claiming she'd reported they "spit" on her kiosk.

Luckily my niece's best friend's Mom was with them as a chaperone and they called her over too and seems no one else saw this "spitting" nor did she say anything when it supposedly happened but all of the kids involved were not really the kind to do this sort of mischief. *we're talking 12 & 13 here* They would have been more likely to called her some very nasty names but "spitting" come on.

Later on they were in a playground area and one of the boys was climbing on a slide when another security guard approached him and asked if "he was one of the kids from Kentucky?" the boy said yes and the guard just said "figures". The boy wasn't doing anything wrong and wasn't told to stop or leave or anything just that question.

So the kids have decided that St Louis, MO has a problem with young teenagers from Kentucky and they have no interest in visiting that city again. It was pointed out that Kings Island was a whole lot closer. lol

But they had a great time and it was fun to see her stretching her wings as a young person away from "mom" for the first time since she was a baby and travelled with her Grandmother and I, but she doesn't remember those times. lol

We've explained to her that where ever you go there will be some people that have to be jerks and being from Ky with our accents can be too big a temptation for them. But it's just too bad that her first "away" trip had to have such prejudice shown.

Election day was interesting as I had four former work mates running for office, 3 against each other! In a way I'm lucky that the ratio of Republican to Democrat here is like 98 to 2 and I'm definitely in the minority, since they had to go into the primary against each other where I couldn't vote for any of them. lol There was no democrat candidate even running for most of the offices and sheriff was one of those. So congrats John and one of the dispatchers I used to work with/supervise was elected jailer so the next 4 years ought to be interesting to see if things change for the better.

I still go vote every election as I see it's both a duty and a right even here in the 5th district of KY where the republican party rules. Hey someone has to remind them there's more out there, right?

Anyway my little nephew is home with me for a couple of days, seems one of his classmates was sent to school with pink eye and now he has it. Since it's very contagious, we will keep him from school and took him to the doctor yesterday too.

Have you ever tried to give an autistic 5 year old who hates medicines of any type... eyedrops? and 3 times a day at that! Ah well we'll sure get our exercise in while this is going on. lol

The worst part of it for me is I may have to miss out on dinner with my friends as I've been well exposed and do not want to expose them. poot!

what those kids went through just goes to show that southern people are more nicer and make better manners , We may not like northerner,s but at least were not rude about it and especially not to children.

Had to go to the doctor yesterday, just regular visit then this morning spent getting labs done. I swear I don't mind the needles or the blood heck I kinda enjoy watching it fill the lines and tubes but those stinking bandaids *cheap ones* they eat your skin alive when you try to pull them off. So now I've got the bruise from the needle and a nice burn mark from the dumb bandaid next to it.

Hey my journal my place to bitch... yep it's not world shaking but it's my little irk. lol

My 13year old niece tried out for a special band group and made it so they are going to a competition in St Louis this weekend and I've been running around gathering all she'll need since they just gave her the list on Monday. lol Her mom is getting uptight about her going since it'll be her first away trip with anyone but family ever. Luckily her best friend qualified and is on the trip too and her Mom is one of the chaperons. We know her and since Amanda has spent the night several times there and Abbey here, it's a lot more reassuring to know someone that's going to be there. I think she'll have a great time and come back sunburned and laughing.

We're really proud of her she joined band last year in the 6th grade and it was her first exposure and yet by the end of the year she had learned to read and write music and even wrote a composition that was played by the whole band at their final concert. It was pretty good too. :) She's really blossomed since the divorce showing an amazing artistic talent both in the music she enjoys and she's turned out to be a good artist with drawing. Heck if you ask her what she wants it's usually a new sketch pad. (got her 2 today)

With all the attention her little brother gets due to his autism, it's tricky sometimes to make sure she gets the attention she needs but it helps now that she's made several friends. When she lived with her father she never felt comfortable making friends or asking them to come over or meet her family. Now she's becoming so outgoing we want to choke her at times. lol

Sounds like your wallflower and blossoming and I think it has something to do with the positive attitude of where she is living now. Of the wonderful woman that took her and her family in, in a time of need. Simply showing love, acceptance and positive reinforcements, has done wonders for both your neice and your nephew.

*hugs* Pat yourself on the back hon. You and their mother are doing wonderful things.

Warning- sad rant to follow- run away now

01:44 May 10 2010

I confess Mother's Day isn't really getting easier for me or my sister. Mom's 3 years gone now and I keep waiting for the hurt to go away. My father's been dead over 20 years now and it took a while but somehow it just wasn't this wrenching as long as losing Mom has been. I guess it's because I had a lot more years with Mom especially the last 5 when I was taking more care of her.

I envy my friends (not in a bad way I promise) the times they can still have with their moms. I know Father's day will be a rough one for Rat and I can hold her hand (if she'll let me) as we force our way though all the commercialization that bombards us everywhere we turn wanting money spent on these holidays instead of what really matters and that's time spent together talking of what really means things to you.

I know I'm nowhere near the only one who's lost their parents but I have to admit around here most have their parents or at least one of them a whole lot longer that I got to have mine. My father was the baby of his family and my Mom a middle kid yet both have older siblings still living while they're both gone. I cannot help but want to yell about the unfairness of that sometimes.

No matter how much I know they both were ready for the release from their suffering when it came, my mom with emphysema and my dad with cancer, it's just difficult at times to accept that against how much I miss them.

Just because you cannot physically see them or hear them, does not mean they are not speaking and watching over you.
